From a Christian perspective, the word "supernatural" is action which goes beyond any created nature, which is attributed only to God. Preternatural, which is finite, goes beyond the structure of the nature of the material universe, and is associated with both holy and fallen angels. Supra-human is that which is above and beyond that of a normal human. By the "occult," we are referring to the pursuit or access of preternatural or supra-human knowledge or powers.
Occult practitioners are those who attempt to pursue knowledge and power from preternatural or supra-human forces. They seek knowledge by forbidden means outside of Godís influence or the natural way that human beings use to obtain it. They also seek forbidden power, producing effects apart from God and in a way that is beyond ordinary human means.
There are several events recorded in the Bible where God speaks against occult based activities. One of these events occurred during the time when God turned over possession of the land of Canaan to the Israelites, just as they were about to enter it. God prohibited and warned the Israelites not to imitate the evil ways of the Canaanites, who were steeped in occult practice.
"When you come into the land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to imitate the abominations of the people there. Let there not be found among you anyone who immolates his son or daughter in the fire, nor a fortune teller, soothsayer, charmer, diviner, or caster of spells, nor one who consults ghosts and spirits or seeks oracles from the dead. Anyone who does such things is an abomination to the Lord, and because of such abominations to the Lord, your God is driving these nations out of your way. You, however, must be altogether sincere toward the Lord, your God" (Deut. 18:9-13).
Involvement in the occult is growing at an alarming rate. Its spread has virtually become viral in our time. Many people from all walks of life are knowingly and deliberately becoming involved in some form of occult practice. Some of these people are using these occult powers with malicious intent to hurt others. And, then there are those who, through lack of knowledge and understanding of its dangerous nature, unknowingly venture into the world of the occult.
The devil can tempt us, but he cannot gain dominion over us unless we open a door to him. Anyone who ventures into occult practice opens a door to diabolic influence and the risk of demonic attacks. These attacks can start off with haunting or poltergeist activity, and could possibly lead to demonic oppression or even possession! Demonic attacks can affect our mental and physical health. They can directly impact our family, marriage, business, social relationships, and ultimately our spiritual well-being.
The Christian based mission of this website is to help you to recognize the presence of the occult, so that you can avoid it.
